Change replicated datastore to another Shared Folder Server

Does anyone know of a way to change the SFS on which a datastore is 'hosted' without breaking replication with a remote source? Both sites are using a VNXe 3300, the source site is correctly configured (except for the destination IP).

Kind regards

    Hi Kvg,

Could you please brief more on the setup. Is this iSCSI replication?

What is SFS (I belive it is Source File system). am I correct?

    Regards

    Hello Shivanand,

    Thanks for your response.

We have two sites with a VNXe 3300 on each. Both VNXe's have datastores on them which are used by VMware ESX-servers. Both VNXe's also have three Shared Folder Servers (SFS's): Two for 'local' datastores devided over two Storage Processors and one SFS for replication.

Replication from Site B to Site A is configured as it should be, between the dedicated replication SFS's. Replication from Site A to Site B is configured with the correct Source SFS, but the destination SFS should be changed for several reasons:

    1. Devidence host-storage traffic and storage-to-storage replication

    2. A dedicated L2 switch will be used for host-storage traffic

3 I want to change the speed of the 'replication SFS' to 100Mbit to better match the bandwidth of the VPN between the sites

I hope my English is explanatory enough for you to understand the current and desired configuration.

    Kind regards,

    Arnoud

    Hi Armoud,

You can use native replication for cifs/nfs which comes along with VNXe Unisphere which requires license.

However for iSCSI (VMware datastore, iSCSI luns) replication you need to use "replication manager" software.

In order to set replication speed you can use the script "svc_interconnect" which you can request from support who will install it on your system.

Below is syntax for "svc_interconnect" command,

    usage : svc_interconnect [command]

    Commands:

      h, help       Print this message

status        Shows interconnect status for all interconnects including their IDs

pause [id]    Pause interconnect, or all interconnects if [id] is not specified

resume [id]   Resume interconnect, or all interconnects if [id] is not specified

      bandwidth [id]

Change bandwidth schedule for specified interconnect, or all

interconnects if [id] is not specified

where is specified in the following format:

            [{Su|Mo|Tu|We|Th|Fr|Sa}][HH:00-HH:00][/Kbps]

or "reset" to use all available bandwidth

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Shivanand,

Thank you very much for your input.

I'll contact support to help me with the installation of svc_interconnect. I hope it helps stabilizing the speed of the replication.

Do you also know of a way to change the storage processor associated to a datastore without breaking the replication with the remote end?

    Kind regards,

    Arnoud

    Hi Arnoud,

With the svc_interconnect you can schedule the bandwidth for respective time.

We would have performed local replication to change the datastore associated with the SP, however since this is already part of replication session you will have to break the replication session and perform local replication and than delete the datastore on original SP.
