Having the right type of disk (SAS vs NL-SAS) and number of disks will all have a direct impact on the performance of your applications. Depending on the applications that you are running, please keep this in mind. For your higher tier applications where performance is more important than capacity we highly recommend the use of 300GB or 600GB SAS drives. For the highest performance out of these drives, the 3+3 RAID 1/0 configuration will yield the best performance but will require more disks for higher capacity. In cases where capacity is of more importance than performance, for example archiving services, then there are 1TB and 2TB NL-SAS drives as an option.
