EMC VNX Snapview clone

Question

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum. I am using EMC VNX Snapview clone technology to clone the db and then these are to be presented to Netbackup media server which will backup these db to tape library and datadomain. I am pretty much confused from where to start. Please guide me what are prerequisites and installation and configuration steps.

are you going to script all the steps or use replication manager ?

Process in itself is very simple:

1) create clone group (will be done once, i assume you will be cloning daily ? )

2) create clone LUNs

3) add LUNs created in step 2 to clone groups (this will perform full copy)

4) fracture clones (this makes them read/write)

5) present clones to backup server

6) assign drive letters/import volume group

7) backup to tape

when backup is complete you will need to pretty much reverse the steps

1) unmount drive/volume group/file system

2) re-sync clone (this will be incremental only)

3) once clone state is in synchronized/consistent state, fracture it

4) assign drive letters/import volume group

5) backup to tape

Is there a reason you want to use clones versus VNX Snapshots ?
