EMC VSI for VMware vSphere
Hi All,
Are there any limitations for deploying the VSI vApp on vSphere, like a number of hosts in the cluster has to be three and not less, or anything else?
I have a two-node ESXi 5.5 cluster. Trying to figure out which would be the best: deploy a VSI vApp, or deploy individual plugins using vCenter client.
We are using vSphere web client to manage VMware, so as far as I understand it, in this case EMC recommends to deploy vApp. If we were using the vCenter client, then I should have deployed the individual VSI plugins. Is that correct?

Hi,
The VSI Web Client OVA is what you will want to deploy as it is where all the latest and greatest features are being developed. The Thick client package is legacy at this point. Once you deploy the OVA, it will integrate with the web client only and for the supported requirements, you can hit the release notes: https://support.emc.com/docu61146_VSI-for-VMware-vSphere-Web-Client-6.6.3-Release-Notes.pdf?language=en_US
In terms of requirements, there is nothing like a minimum number of nodes in the cluster. The main requirements will be ESX/Virtual Center version support with the various code versions of VSI for interoperability and those are in the release notes as well.

Any idea if the latest VSI plugin 6.6.3 is supported and will work with this:
VMware ESXi, 5.5.0, 2068190 - ESXi 5.5 Update 2
vCenter 5.5.0 3000241 - vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3
vSphere Web Client Version 5.5.0 Build 2893190
This is all from the same VMware environment.
I cannot see VMware update 3 on EMC support matrices for either VSI 6.5, 6.6, or 6.6.3, the latest one that is there is VMware vSphere, VMware vSphere Web Client, VMware ESX/ESXi, and VMware vCenter Server 5.5 U2B and 6.0.

ESX and vcenter look OK. I would imagine the web client to be a similar version, but didn't lookup that build number. Here are the requirements for the 6.6.3 OVA:
