Feature Request writable snapshots for NFS

Question

Hi, I have 2 VNXe3300 running NFS against vSphere 5. I am lacking the promote option for NFS snapshot. Isn't it possible to implement a feature to make the snapshot writable. I really miss this option. I know that there are more people out there running vSphere on NFS? and lack this feature??? The story is that I am in the process of creating a testlab out of my production environment. I want the testlab to use thin vms, why use thick in test right. The testlab will be stored on one of the VNXes so it will be on the same unit as production. So I don't want to utilize to much space or power from production. As of now I have to copy/move(from vCenter) the folder from the snapshot to the datastore that will hold the testlab. That will make the vms thick of course I can convert them but then I will have to copy them again. I would like to register the snapshot vm into vCenter and then svMotion into testserver. Then I have the opportunity to make disk thin. Alright, there is a function to clone the vms from vCenter but that uses the snapshot from vSphere and I have been in to many messes in earlier version of Vmware to make use of that one on production vms that are utilized and mean something. I know that I can use iscsi but that isn't a choice I have made during design. I like NFS and want to stick with it. so to make things short. I want writable snapshots for NFS !!! /michael

Writable File System snaps will be available in the next MR2 release (Q1’2012).

VMware NFS shares can be promoted as read/write in MR4 (Q1'13)
