Gathering IOPS pattern for VNX array ?

Hi All,

Is it possible to gather the IOPS pattern for the VNX ?

Because I need to know the workload and determine the inactive period for safe upgrade of the firmware.

Thanks in advance.

Hm.. do you mean by generating the log bundle and log a support call to EMC ?

I was just wondering if there is a better way to view it in a graph or some sort.

look in Navisphere Analyzer or ask support to look at the naz file (encrypted nar) file.

How to get into that menu item to show the window above ?

Actually my Unisphere shows this note:

"Performance charts are not available because Analyzer software is not installed on this storage system."

Where can I download the Analyzer ?

Here's what I've got:

is there something wrong with my Unisphere or VNX ? or do I have to look in different software to get the IOPS ?

So my only option is to generate the diagnostic files for both SP and then submit it to EMC via email

or through the following option below:

yes, hit Start and let it run for 7 day. Then get with support or you local EMC TC and ask them to assist with interpreting info from the naz file. They can take your naz file and run it through MiTrend and give you some nice graphs.

I simply wanted to comment on the screenshot that showed "Unavailable" for the statistics as scattered throughout Unisphere.  With or without the UnisphereAnalyzer enabler loaded, you can still get the statistics as seen scattered throughout Unisphere in, for instance, the "Statistics" tab of the "LUN properties" page as you have pasted or similarly the "SP properties" .  It is likely you will find that "Statistics Logging" isn't enabled.

It can be enabled via the following path:

1) Click on "System"

2) On the choices along the right, under "System Management", click on "System Properties"

3) On the "General" tab (default focus), you will find the option in question.

Statistics Logging is enabled on my array yet many areas are blank, i am not too worried about it because i have Analyzer running but what could be the issue ?

When you select SP Properties/Statistics, if Statistic Logging is enabled AND Data Logging is running, you should see the statistics start to display after some amount to time - is logging is set to 300 seonds, then maybe 5 minutes. That's for release 31, I have not tried 32 yet.

Another thing just to be certain, for instance if viewing an older array within the latest Unipshere, there may be some statistics that simply aren't supported and iirc will show "n/a"?.  Unless of course Dynamox you are referring to your VNX as viewed in Unisphere (and not for instance your CX3 as viewed within Unisphere being a member of the same domain)?  Sorry, just wanted to verify.

Glen,

Can you confirm for me everything that is required to see the statistics as shown in, for instance, the LUN properties view or SP properties as pasted above?  You had mentioned "Statistics logging" has to be enabled and also mentioned Logging has to be running as started from within Analyzer which I forgot to mention.  I agree with those.

Now, can you verify for me that even users that don't have the UnisphereAnalyzer enabler loaded, they can still get information as seen in the "Statistics" tabs?  They still have to make sure "Statistics Logging" is enabled and also need to enable "Logging".  While we can ignore the .NAR vs .NAZ output for this conversation, but if a user were to go to the LUN Properties Statistics tab as pasted above, they would still get the information right?  Or is it truly only for users with Analyzer enabler loaded.  After writing my reply above, I had some doubts.

I always thought that even users without UnisphereAnalyzer enabler can get the "real-time" and/or those calculated since last reset as seen in the "Statistics" tabs within Unisphere.

Hope this makes sense.
