Historical Storage Figures (VNX)
Hi There - I was wondering if there is any way to gather historical storage figures natively from the VNX? (ive got to report on storage growth figures) We didn't/don't have any reporting tools for the period which im trying to cover. Obviously I will be looking to remedy this in the future.
Kind Regards,
Chris

You can utilize the data from historical SPCollects stored on each of the SPs. Using Unisphere Service Manager you can then import the SPCollects and create an excel spreadsheet which details the array's configuration, including capacity. You'd have to do this for each SPCollect.
For a longer term solution you could use naviseccli to gather the metrics you are looking for and place them in a csv file to later graph.

Is it just for storage growth or for any performance analysis?

Sorry for late reply. We have a unified system, but it is for block.

Hi - are these logs which are permanently collected and stored or just when they are turned on?

Brian was speaking about the spcollects - these files are stored on each SP (SPA and SPB) when you run the "Generate Diagnostics files" from the Unisphere GUI. The array also runs spcollects once a week. There is a limit for storing the files on the array, the oldest files will be replaced over time with new files. In general it seems like about 15-20 of the files can be retained on the SP's (SPA and SPB).You could manually download these once every couple of weeks to keep the old ones to compare to new ones. This also helps in troubleshooting certain classes of problem where comparing older spcollects to new ones can help determine when a problem started to occur.
If you use USM (Unisphere Service Manager) to run and collect the Diagnostic files (spcollects), the files are downloaded to the workstation where you run USM from. These are stored on your workstation until you delete them.
Spcollects contain configuration information (and fault information) about the array. Using USM, you can "View System Configuration" and output to either an HTML view or a spreadsheet (Excel). Using USM also allows you to run a Health Check on a regular basis.
