How to capture network traffic from a Data Mover

On occasion, you may run into a problem that isn’t captured in the array’s diagnostic information.  You may see an error message with a cifs share, or maybe you’re getting a slow transfer from a single client.  In cases like these, it might be best to capture a network trace of the problem and submit it as part of your service request.

This video demonstrates how you can use the server_tcpdump command to capture network traffic to a file:  https://support.emc.com/media43119

This video is based off of primus solution emc49693.

Sean,

good stuff, are you going to accompany this video with a PDF file ? If yes maybe you can create an appendix section and explain how to add useful filters to server_tcpdump such as "host" , "net" ..makes it easier to filter in Wireshark. Also add a section on how to capture traffic on the host side tcpdump/Wireshark ? I am sure support would appreciate to see 2-way conversation, at least i do

I can look into doing that in the future.  Have you made a comment on the primus article indicating that you'd like to see some explanation about filters?  That would be the best place to get some traction.  You might have to search for the primus on support.emc.com and comment through there as i believe the link i posted is read only.
