Migrate Thick to Thin - SQL
Hello everybody, I have the following situation and am trying to see if there are any gotchas.
A customer currently has stand-alone (bare-metal) Windows 2008 SQL servers. The data currently resides on a VNX 5700 (FLARE 32) array. However, the data is residing on a thick LUN. In order to get better performance, I will be migrating this LUN to a new pool designed for the I/O requirements for this SQL server(s).
The source LUN is now 250GB, but I want to migrate to a thin LUN. I am simply going to create a 250GB Thin LUN and use LUN Migrate to copy from Thick (250GB) to Thin (250GB). I believe this can be done online and the rates can be throttled depending on the I/O characteristics of the day.
My question is, will the Windows OS perceive this new thin LUN differently from the disk management perspective? Will there be an extra step or so?
Thanks,
JH

Windows will not know a thing happened, completely transparent from host perspective.
