problem when install VNX5400 unified using VIA

I have a problem when installed my first VNX5400. I used VIA v8.1.1.33.

Step of configuring IP of the control station was success, but then there was an error, the model of the VNX not recognized, so I exited the installation.

I tried again VIA and had an error, checked via serial port on /etc/hosts the IP and hostname of the control station already configured.

Ping from client to that IP address ok, but tried using GUI (Unisphere) failed.

Anyone has similar problem please let me know how to solve it.

Severity: Error
Message: VNX not found, click 'Retry Search' to try again.
Full Description: Control Stations did not respond to the search. If you have already configured a Control Station, you must access it over the network to change the configuration.
Recommended action: If you just powered on the Control Stations, it may take up to 15 minutes before the MAC address is discovered.
1) Click Retry Search, if VNX Installation Assistant (VIA) was run before the Control Station was able to broadcast its public external network interface’s MAC address, and try again.
2) Make sure your VNX is powered up.
3) Make sure your VNX is connected to the network.
4) Make sure your VNX and the Windows client are on the same physical LAN.
5) Make sure any existing firewall, pop-up blockers, and VPN software are disabled.
6) Make sure Cisco Security agent is turned off on the client PC, and the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevent Service is disabled.
7) If the PC has more than one interfaces, make sure you select the network interface card for your local area network on which the Control Station is connected.
8) If the Control Station still does not respond, power cycle the Control Station and click Retry Search.
9) If the Control Station still does not respond, use a crossover cable to connect to the Control Station. Refer to VIA Network Checklist on VIA Welcome screen for instructions.

Hi Ari,

I had the same problema with a VNX 5200, but, it was because the workstation where I was running the VIA has a different IP and also because the ports of the LAN switches were down. Maybe could help you!!!

hi, please try this solution first...

If you encounter this issue, take the steps below to enable the discovery tool to proceed by disabling the McAfee service:

  1. On the Windows workstation (where the VIA, InitTool, or CU application is running), navigate to the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services icon. You can also access the Services program from Start > Run: services.msc.
  2. Open the Services icon and locate the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention Service.
  3. Double-click the McAfee service, and at "Startup type", select "Disabled", and  at "Service status", select Stop to stop the service.
  4. Retry the VIA, InitTool, or CU initialization process and then complete the system initialization.
  5. After the system initialization is complete, re-enable the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention Service by changing "Startup type" to "Automatic", and then "Start" to start the service at "Service status". It is critical to re-enable the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention Service once steps 1-4 above are completed in order to protect your systems.

If i remember correctly, it has to do with what Carlos mentioned.   I had a laptop that was on wireless and WIRED .. got up to that stage and got the same error.  Disabled my wireless and it worked.  The other thing is, yes, do make sure your laptop IP is on the same subnet.
