Question regarding SPs in the same subnet
When we first implemented we made the mistake of putting SPA and SPB in the same subnet. This resulted in the iSCSI ip addresses for SPA and SPB also being in the same subnet. Without changing the subnet of one of the SPs, can I have the server 2008 hosts use two subnets to communicate with the VNX using mpio? I understand that one of the data paths from the host to the vnx will have to be routed from one subnet to the other.

Hi,
It is recommended to have different subnet for iSCSI connectivity. So that Production subnet and iSCSI subnet more effectively in terms of Performance.
Unless and Until the Host is able to communicate with the Array using the other available path, you can go ahead and change the subnet details.
You may also refer Primus article emc292558 for best iSCSI performance recommendations.
Thanks

I will eventually work with EMC to correct the mistake on the SPs. My question is about the host side of things for now.

Make sure to put 1 port/SP on one subnet and other on other subnet. For example, if your iSCSI ports are SPA ports 7 and 8 and SPB ports 7 and 8 then make sure that SPA port 7 and SPB port 7 are on the present subnet and SPA port 8 and SPB port 8 are on the new subnet.
Ofcourse all these changes should be done when the load on servers is low.

I already have the production and iSCSI subnets separated on the host. My question involved only iSCSI traffic. I'll try real numbers in an example. I am not including any production network in the example, it is not relevant. The array has both SPs in vlan 117. Currently I have 1 port on my 2008 server in vlan 117. Can I add a second port on the host in vlan 118 that will also service iSCSI traffic if mpio is configured? Eventually the array will also be configured to use vlan 118.
