Snapshot then clone solution?
Hi,
I am looking for a method where I can very quickly have 5 local point in time copies of a source LUN and have them mounted permanently for read/write.
I understand that snapview clones give me that option. however, it does mean that I will have to wait until the source data is fully copied to 5 destination LUNs and is in sync before the target LUNs are fractured and removed.
I understand that "VNX snapshots" can be added to a snapshot mount point but that is not going to be an actual LUN that I can have permanently mounted as it has a performance impact.
I am looking basically for something similar to NetApp's flexclone, where I simply I can take a snapshot of a volume and have it immediately mounted and then breaking the clone from the source LUN can happen at a later time in the background. What is a similar solution does VNX offer?

can't do that on VNX (you can on VMAX). Like you said for clone to be any good needs to be in either consistent on synchronized state.
I am not sure how much performance hit you will see with VNX snapshots, they are not like snapview snapshots with COFW penalty, it's using redirected writes, don't need RLP etc.
