VNX MirrorView over iSCSI, mixed host access
Hello,
Is it possible to have iSCSI based MV/S with servers connected with FC SAN to local storage array and iSCSI connection to remote array?
I have read that its not possible to have a host connected to one array with both FC and iSCSI (is this right?), but is it possible to have them connected to i.e. source replication LUN via FC and destination LUN via iSCSI?
Thanks,
Vitek

Hello Vitek,
This are two different topics.
1. MV/S you can either replicate between two arrays with FC or iSCSI but not both at the same time.
2. Host connectivity. You can connect hosts to one array vi FC and to other array via iSCSI but you can’t mix connections to the same array.
A few things to consider.
-As long you are not using 10GB Ethernet iSCSI via Ethernet has a much lower band with than FC with 4 or 8 GB.
- MV/S: A host should never ever see the source luns and the target luns at the same time !!!!!!!!!!!
- You should follow all iSCSI configuration guidelines see KB article “EMC Knowledge Article 71615 : CLARiiON and VNX: Facts, limitations, and recommended settings when using iSCSI. “ https://support.emc.com/kb/71615

Hi rewalmilo and thanks for the reply
MV/S: A host should never ever see the source luns and the target luns at the same time !!!!!!!!!!!.
-- i get that, but in case of one array failing, is it possible to make the 2nd VNX replica available to the host via iSCSI even if the primary connection to the primary array was FC?
-- the array is going to be replicated via iSCSI, the host access however should be mixed iSCSI/FC.
-- thanks, this prolly eliminates this solution.
