VNX5600 Pool's
We have a VNX 5600 with a Pool created. The SSD's are 200GB. However we are looking as a possible option to increase the size of the actual drives, i.e. remove the 200Gb and replace with say 800Gb drives.
Is this possible to do while still hot and in use, without destroying the pool.
Thoughts were to remove the HS 200GB SSD, replace with 800GB SSD, initiate copy to HS, when completed, complete the process of all other 200GB SSD's until all swapped out
Then hopefully when the last one is done, we will have a Pool that has the same number of SSD's but with more capacity i.e. all 800GB drives with all space useable.
Any opion's on this greatly appreciated
Thank you

I don't believe that will work. You could swap the drives one at a time, but in the end I do not believe that they will suddenly 'find' the other 600GBs on the disks once they are all replaced.
I also do not think that you can 'shrink' the pool by removing the SSDs, then grow it with the new ones.
If you had other pools/RAID groups on the array you could move the LUNs out of the pool, destroy it and then re-create it with the new disks. That would be non-disruptive to the hosts.
This is a good example of why I tend to create several smaller pools rather than just one big one. I want the flexibility of being able to drain a pool, if needed, to do this sort of thing.

Thanks Guys, you confirmed more or less what I thought. Think we need to go to Architect for feasible options, cheers

Your best bet would be to create a new pool and migrate out of the old pool into the new one using the internal migration tool. this would require you to build a pool with the new SSD plus sufficient disk to account for the existing pool capacity.
