How do I return my Vostro 3910 if it doesn't support RAM upgrade as per manual?

Not sure what kind of dodgy motherboard it is but this PC is useless and not upgradable despite the below spec stating otherwise. I tried 3 different sets of RAM (from Crucial and Corsair) with different speeds, with different voltage etc. nothing works.

Two encounters with Dell 'technical' support told me a lot about Dell service and I don't want to have anything to do with a company that doesn't have support and limits PC upgrades, intentionally or unintentionally by using very bad components. This is some kind of Dell's own motherboard that no one knows (even though some googling suggests the model should have B660 chipset). ALso some tools show me that the current 3200 speed Ram works actually at 1600Mhz and there is no way to even access any setting from Bios.

The tools you speak of, and I assume it is CPU-Z, are reporting the RAM frequency BUT you have DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM so the actual speed is 2 x 1600 in other words 3200.

Has to be single rank RAM 1Rx8. It seems that mobo doesn't recognize double rank 2Rx8 at all.

Sorry if my reply was confusing but I was referring to the tools you used that showed RAM speed at 1600. I was talking about DDR (Double Data Rate) not double rank which is a description of the placement of the memory chips. They are 2 completely different RAM specifications.

If you are upgrading RAM to the listed specs on the chart and it is not recognized, you could try pulling the CMOS battery for 15 minutes then reinstalling. That will reset the BIOS and possibly resolve the RAM problem. As far as returning the system, you only have 30 days from the date of delivery to return the system otherwise it would require a service call and possibly a tech visit but not a refund.
