Dell Vostro 5490 Ethernet only 100 mbps
Hi everyone So I have a Dell Vostro 5490 with Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller and it should reach 1 Gbps
Ethernet properties show only 100 Mbps.
Wireless I get like 300 Mbps I'm on Windows 10 I'm using a CAT6 ethernet cable, I've tried in another computer and in it I get 550 Mbps All my router ports are gigabit or whatever the name is.
I've updated to the latest Realtek controller The adapter is set for Auto Negotiation, Receive buffers 512 (that's the maximum it allows), Send buffers 128 (maximum), disable gigabit automatically is disabled, offloads are off for ARP, large IPv4, IPv6, Rx and Tx on in every setting, NS offload off, Side scaling on, Efficient ethernet on, Ecology ethernet on, Gigabit lite on, Interrupt moderation on, Max RSS queues 4, Power saving off, priority and VLAN on, wake up on pattern on, magic packet on, Jumbo 9014 bytes, WOL no reduction, Duplex speed autonegotiation (also tried 1 Gbip in the dropdown list), wake on magic packet off.
What am I doing wrong? Is it anything in the setup, might it be windows configuration, what can I do? I have 600 mbps and can only enjoy 100 mbps when wired... would very much appreciate your help!
Thanks

it’s just the limitation of your 10/100 mb ethernet port. Nothing you’re doing wrong here, Dell basically saving a few cents. The 7000/5000 series has a giga ethernet port; the 5000, they kept the 100mb max port. Pretty pathetic in this day and age.

Lol I can't believe I've spent the whole morning with a Dell technician and private messages if that's true - that my 5490 does not have a 1 Gbps port which I find pretty pathetic for a 2019 laptop.
It's good to know so we don't keep buying these for the company.
Thanks

The icing on the cake is the laptop specifications clearly include a RJ45 10/100/1000 port.
By chance I've found in a drawer a Dell USB-C to ethernet adapter and.... hocus pocus, 1 Gbps straight away.
So that makes it clear. The price was budgety for a reason. We'll see what actions we take as we've bought several of these for the company.
