Dell vostro 5490 making static noise when plugged in

 I have my laptop now for 4 days and just noticed that when my laptop is charging/plugged in, it makes a weird scrambling, static noise. If i remove the plug, the noise stops. The noise gets louder when i move my mouse or use the touchpad.

The noise stops when i remove the plug.

I tried:

  1. update my bios
  2. update sound drivers
  3. found the High performance mode by editting the 'CsEnabled' value from '1' to '0'.
  4. update every update that was available on the dell/support website for my laptop

If someone has the same problem or a solution, please let me know! I will contact support monday and find out what they can do for me.

Here, in addition to what was already exposed in this forum, I was also unable to remove the screws to access the components of the Vostro 5490 (in the 2 devices - the one purchased in January 2020 and the one received in exchange now in December 2020, identical configurations).

When opening the new equipment the same thing, on the same day that I turned on the equipment, the screw problems that do not come out to be able to remove the back cover, light leakage on the screen and the clicking noise remain.

And they just gave me as a solution a credit refund to buy another Dell, however, with the bad economy as it is, I am in no condition to pay more money.

Crazy Dell has had this issue for over a year and have not fixed it.  Does anyone out there have an i7 vostro not making the noise.  Seems like the replacements are clicking as well and I should just ask for a full refund.  This ticking is pretty unbearable when the environment is silent.

I know right! I would ask a refund while you still can, they denied me a refund even though how i explained that its a factory problem. I'm also out of service and I'm not gonna pay for more because it seems pretty hopeless since how long it already has been. Guess it'll be my first and last dell laptop.

@Shagunpreet Singh

If you are stuck to the notebook just as I am, I found a way to make it a bit better - turn off Intel Turbo Boost in BIOS. In my case, it makes the notebook almost completely quiet. But it comes with a downside, you loose some cpu power.

Personally, when I need/want it to be quiet, I turn Turbo Boost off and when I'm home and can't hear it through headphones I turn it on. There is an app called ThrottleStop, that lets you turn it off and on as you please in windows.

It is not the best solution, but it's better than nothing.

I had the same problem with my Vostro 5620 about 3 months ago.  The problem progressed, ruined my motherboard, and charging port, plus other parts not described 2 me.  Now I have to pay $120 for a battery that was probably degraded by the first issue.  My extended warranty doesn’t cover the battery.  Never again will I buy a Dell.  The thing is only 16 months old.
