Disabling Adaptive Contrast on a Dell Laptop
SOLVED - Having quickly discovered that 'Adaptive Contrast' was the thing I needed to disable to prevent my laptop brightness reducing whenever a darker image was being displayed (not 'adaptive brightness' which is a completely different thing), I then spent hours looking for the fix - none of which worked (it appears the registry fix that some people had success with a while back no longer works).
Finally, I discovered Dell describes the issue as 'Dynamic brightness' OR 'CABC', at which point I quickly came across this solution of simply restarting my laptop and pressing F2 as it booted to go into the BIOS. Then select 'Video', and setting 'EcoPower' to disable and it worked straight away.
Thanks so much the various people that posted nudging me in the right direction. Hopefully, others with Dell laptops won't spend as long searching for 'Adaptive Contrast' when they need to be searching 'Dynamic Brightness CABC' and that they come straight across this solution.

This solution seems no longer to work - do you still see the option in your BIOS? It's not there for me, frustratingly.
