If you're replacing Linux, Windows 7 isn't a good option as it is no longer supported with security updates.

I just upgraded my Vostro 1015 from XP to Win 7 Ultimate x64. With only 3 gB of RAM and a 2.1ghz 2-core CPU, I suspect that Windows 10 would run very poorly, if at all, on a Vostro 1015. Dell has drivers for this machine only for XP and Windows 7, and I was able to get all the hardware to work. Unfortunately, the graphics chip apparently does not support OpenGL, so I can't get Google Earth to run, even in DirectX mode.
