Needing to update ALC3254 driver, but running Linux.
I have a Vostro 5620 and I've just updated the BIOS to the latest 1.10. The BIOS reports the sound card as a RealTek ALC3254. However, my linux kernel is unable to detect the sound card and I believe this to be an issue with the driver.
The problem is that the driver on the Dell website is being rejected because it can only be updated apparently from a Windows system. In fact, this is the problem with most drivers on the Dell site.
Has anyone found a way to update the BIOS with better drivers without having to wipe the OS and load windows?

You write that you have the latest BIOS.
You need updated Linux driver.

And yet the latest drivers don't recognize the sound card. This is not a new sound card. I've yet to see anyone that has this card running with Linux.
The question is, has anyone found a way to update the firmware for the sound card while running Linux? Only windows firmware is downloadable on the Dell drivers support page.

Try this page as it would appear that some users have had success. And again the best place for Linux support is the Linux forum and support pages at Linux.
