Ram operates at less speed. Vostro 3501

When I checked the ram details using CPU Z , the max bandwidth is 3200mhz. In task manger the ram speed is 2667mhz. The sticker on ram read it as PC4- 3200AA(given as a picture)
So i want to know has my operating system underclocked the ram or i was given a ram at higher speed .

When I checked the specifications , my laptop supports up to 2667mhz. If I want to purchase another ram for duel channel memory what is the speed I have to look for, 2666 or 3200mhz. The CL of my current ram(3200mhz is 22)

The processor you have controls the memory speed.  What model CPU do you have?

I had a similar issue on Inspiron 15 3501. The laptop delivered with a Samsung RAM rated at 3200Mhz but only running at 2667Mhz.

For Dell 3501 model without dedicated graphic card (Nvidia), the RAM frequency is locked to 2667Mhz at BIOS level. There is no way to unlock manually from BIOS menu.

You could upgrade to another module of 3200Mhz but it will still run at 2667Mhz. You could technically add a 2667Mhz RAM module, but in case (unlikely) Dell decided to unlock the RAM frequency in next BIOS update, then you would be stuck at 2667Mhz.
