Vostro 1014 - Loading a new version of Win 7 - help!
Hi,
I bought a Vostro 1014 with the HDD wiped, I have tried to load Win 7 onto it and it is successful until the final stage when it states insert driver discs. I'm no expert but I have used the same disc to load win 7 onto my other Lattitude laptop and it did not ask for driver discs and works fine, however on the Vostro it asks for driver discs. I have tried downloading the drivers onto a cd and a stick but it states on the Vostra that the stick or cd does not contain the drivers required? What am I doing wrong, can anyone help

You start with installing the chipset driver.

Did you get the drivers from Dell Drivers and Downloads? Only windows 7 32 bits is supported by Dell.
Are you aware that Windows 7 will not be supported by Microsoft after Jan 14 2020?

Latitude drivers will not work for the Vostro--diff hardware.

I am using a dell win 7 installation disc, I downloaded the drivers from this site onto a stick and dvd but it would not recognise the driver and install on the laptop. Can you tell me which drivers I would need to download with a fresh win 7 OS so I could try again? Thanks

The error message about not having drivers, usually means your storage controller is missing (unlikely for a 2009 model) or your installation media is corrupt. This happens frequently when Windows 7 ISOs are burnt to DVD or an incomplete Download is used to make Windows Installation Media.
Note however that Windows 7 Reaches End of Life in January 2020.
You can however install Windows 10 for Free Using your Windows 7 OEM Product Key:

Windows 10 Installation Media will be up to date and should include all the drivers for your system. This systems hardware should run Windows 10 okay but you'll get much better performance if you replace the mechanical Hard Drive with a Solid State Drive.
