VOSTRO 1015 OPTICAL DRIVE RELACED WITH SSD

I successfully replaced the hard drive with an SSD, but replacing the optical drive with a 'state of the art' max M 1TB 3D NAND SATA 3 SSD does not work.

The bios reports "Fixed Bay Device  = {none}

I hope this was not money waisted

Any help please

Neville

I first decided to check whether the new ssd was in working order and compatible with my sata. I cloned the existing ssd harddirve onto it and it worked. I then swopped the existing ssd with the optical drive and installed the new 1TB SSD as my C: drive.

I suspect the reason for not working the first was that the SSD was not inserted firmly inro the data3 socketd.

After inserting firmly however the supporting screws of the caddy did not allign with holes on SSD

The system firmware won't see the drive -- but does the device manager (or the disc administrator)?

Note that a drive mounted in the optical bay can be used for storage, but not as a boot drive.

Thanks for your reply

Device Manager only detects the existing SSD in the original HD location..

There is however an unexplained warning under "Other Devices" which reads Base System Device

Try a different type of adapter -- these aren't universal in compatibility.
