Vostro 3700 network card
My Vostro 3700 is ten years old (i3) and I am wondering if I can replace the network adapter to get 5g as it now only connects to 2g. Is this possible to accomplish? Is there any way to do this without opening the laptop which I have never done? TIA

Welcome to the Dell Community @Rog629
Yes your ports are 2.0.
https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_vostro_notebook/vostro-3700_setup%20guide_en-us.pdf
If you do decide to open the laptop the Intel 6250 would be a good choice.
As you have drivers for that model on your Driver Support page.
https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/vostro-3700/drivers
If you would want 5G and Bluetooth then the Intel 6235 should work.
Best regards and good luck,

The system does have USB 2.0 support.
You can also replace the wireless card with a newer dual-band unit, but that will be an internal upgrade. Just make sure you choose a half mini-PCIe card -- most new cards are M.2/NGFF, which your system does not suport.

You can use something like this to do the job externally:

Thank you. This appears to require USB 2.0 minimum and I am not sure my USB ports are 2.0 - according to device manager the ports do not say "enhanced" in properties. There are two items in device manager called "Intel 5 series/3400 series chipset family USB enhanced Enhanced host controller but these don't seem to have a specific location.

Hi, yeah there is so many possible way to connect with the 5g. If you are thinking about replacing network adapter. So that is also a best option. But Recently new router came in the market which are auto detectable. When you replace instead of adapter. So it will capture the available signal either its 5g or 2g. So you could also try that.
