Vostro 5471 wd19

Hello,

I have Dell Vostro 5471 (https://www.dell.com/hr/business/p/vostro-14-5471-laptop/pd) with i5 8250u and Intel® HD Graphics 620.

I would like to buy Dell Docking Station - WD19 180W (https://www.dell.com/hr/business/p/dell-wd19-180w-dock/pd) and connect two displays to it. In WD19 datasheet it is written that it supports 2 x FHD @ 60Hz for laptops with HBR2 and 2 x QHD @ 60Hz for laptops with HBR3.

Is Vostro 5471 HBR2 or HBR3 capable?

Will the docking station be able to charge the laptop?

Thank you @jphughan for the very good explanation. I will also put here two topics that you've answered previously and were very helpful:

Vostro 5490, fully compatible with any dock?

Docking Station D6000-Very Bad Video performance for gaming

Summing up. I've bought WD19TB docking station for my Vostro 5471. It provides laptop charging and runs dual FHD displays through a USB Type-C.

Though the Dell support replied that there is no displayport support on vostro 5471 without discrete gpu in the quick start guide (https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_vostro_notebook/vostro-14-5471-laptop_setup_guide_sv-se.pdf) for this model is stated that it has USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type-C) port with Power Delivery/DisplayPort and there is no notice that this functionality is limited to laptops with dedicated gpu.

I've already tested that power delivery works fine for this model, and I'm wondering if anybody had experience of connecting this laptop to external display with type-c cable?

@flarezt  I can't speak to the capabilities of the USB-C port in any particular setup, but if video output is available, it would very likely be HBR2.  The Intel GPU built into the Intel CPUs of that generation only supported HBR2, and quite confusingly, even on systems where video output on USB-C was only available with a discrete GPU, the output was still driven by the Intel GPU in that case.  So if this system is like that, then it will be HBR2.

Lastly, you shouldn't need a WD19 180W.  The 130W version should be fine since it provides up to 90W to the attached system.  The 180W version is for systems that require 130W, but I'm not sure Dell supports 130W charging over USB-C on any Inspiron or Vostro systems.  It's available on certain XPS and Precision systems, but not sure about Vostro.

Hello,

Instead of providing a private why don't you make it public so others on the forum can benefit from this. Is it that difficult?

Thanks
