Vostro 5481 with Samsung 980 Pro
Vostro 5481 with Samsung 980 Pro not achieving expected read/write speeds. After reading a few discussions about this, I assume that this is due to the PCIe slot only being 3rd Gen. Is there anything I can do to upgrade to a 4th Gen PCIe slot? Would this mean replacing the Baseboard? Is this realistic or just too risky?
Notebook config:
- Vostro 5481
- Samsung 980 Pro 500GB
- 32GB RAM
- BaseBoard Dell 0WT8NK Version A01

It cannot be done. According to the system specs you have an 8th Gen Intel CPU and for the PCIe 4 gen you need an 11th Gen Intel CPU. And that CPU and MB are not available for the 5481.

JOcean, thanks very much for your prompt reply.
And there was I thinking I had done well to upgrade my SSD. Obviously a lot more to it than I thought.
Thanks anyway.

Happy to help out! But the SSD upgrade is still smart and will give you very good speeds. Then down the road if you ever upgrade your system you have the Samsung SSD to install in a new system.
