vostro 5490 home/end keys

Please i need support.

The Dell Vostro 5490 Portuguese keyboard model ABNT2 came with home / end keys on the function key track ie home / F10 and end / F11, which makes the diffraction totally counterproductive, there is a solution to map these keys back to fn + left arrow (home) and fn + right arrow (end)?

Thanks

@rodrigoreis  That would require a firmware update from Dell.  There are already a few threads about this issue on this forum, some quite large, and many pertaining to the XPS 13 where this change was made a few years ago, although Dell is now deploying this design to the XPS 15 and 17 and even some Latitude systems.  I found an internal escalation path within Dell and wrote this up as a problem that should be considered for fixing given that this COULD be fixed with a firmware update, and I was told that it was forwarded to the XPS Engineering team for review, but I never heard anything after that.  But there isn't another fix that would involve using the Fn key because the Fn key itself isn't detected by the OS, which means you can't do anything with it.  The OS only sees a single scan code that results from pressing Fn and some other key, as opposed to seeing those keys independently.  If you have some other key combination that you might find workable, you could use the free and excellent Autohotkey to define some custom mappings.  Autohotkey is extremely powerful, but if all you want to do is create a couple of mapping like this, it's pretty easy to set up and there are several examples on their documentation page.  But for example, you could specify that RightCtrl+Left would trigger Home (you can use Autohotkey to specify key combinations that only apply when a specific Ctrl/Alt key is pressed rather than applying to both Left and Right Ctrl/Alt).  But that's about as close as you can get.

Thanks for your response.

I'll try Autohotkey, besides this you could share a roadmap for this firmware feature implementation?

@rodrigoreis  Unfortunately I don't have a roadmap.  To be clear, Dell Rockstars such as myself are not official Dell Support reps.  We're just contributors here.  I personally happen to have found an escalation path within Dell, but as I said I haven't heard back as to whether Dell even intends to implement this.  I just made a case for them doing so.
