Hi, I am having simmilar issues after upgrading from 9gen TB3 to 11gen TB4.
- Sudden blackout, disconnect and reconnect, after few minutes of usage. - Laptop wakes up and does not output video to external screens, until manual dock reconnect. - If left connected overnight, something is messed up and I cannot login due to repeating keys on keyboard, until manual dock reconnect.
UPDATE: - Update to Windows 11 - no change - Update BIOS to latest version released few days ago, update all drivers - no change - Disable kernel DMA protection before login - no change
Still, no display output when connecting the dock. Login, reconnect needed.
Same issue here. I find that if I p[lug the dock in at the login screen it works fine, or if I unplug and replug the dock after hearing the windows 11 login screen sound it works fine. It would be nice to have this work as normal. This is also confirmed on 4 new 7510's and a combo of wd19tb and wd19tbs docks. All docks and laptops are on latest bios/firmware.
We can private message if you feel there is a solution. I can confirm this issue on 4 Vostro 15 7510 series laptops, and 4 different WD19TB/TBS docking stations. All laptops are windows 11, and updated to current BIOS/drivers using support assist. The Docks are all updated using the WD19 series dock firmware updater.
Hello @emago02, finally someone! I debugged more and it's happening only in hibernation mode.
If you put the Vostro to sleep, after some hours and some battery eaten, it automatically puts itself to hibernation. Then the dock does not work.
You can easily reproduce it by enabling manual hibernation mode in Control Panel > Power settings. Then just put it to hibernation > Wait 1 min > Connect dock and turn on the laptop > No display.
The random disconnecting issue seems to be fixed by latest BIOS/driver updates, week or two ago.
I just wish I could get the dock and laptop to work on initial boot. I have to either boot the laptop then plug the dock in when at the login screen, or if the laptop is closed you can unplug the dock when you hear the windows 11 login sound if the volume is on. I tried to enable the bios setting to enable thunderbolt pre-boot, but this did not help. I usually use the Dell XPS series, and they work flawlessly with the WD19TB's but I was not able to get a mid grade XPS last fall so I bought 4 of these Vostro 7510's which are excellent beyond this issue.
I am running into the exact same issue with our Dell Vostro 7510s and our WD19TBS docking stations. I have yet to find a solution to this problem.
I have gone into BIOS and enabled the Thunderbolt Boot Support option. I have edited the registry to DisableExternalDMAUnderLock. Laptop/dock up-to-date with drivers/firmware.
The laptop is shut down, plug it into the docking station, it turns on (Wake on USB-C option enabled in BIOS) but the screens do not come on and the mouse/keyboard is unresponsive.
It seems as if the DMA protection is still in place and overriding our policies.
I also use a WD19TB and a Vostro 7510 under Windows 11 Pro, I got the same issue. I've double checked all parameters in the BIOS, and I've enabled each recommend points. My issue is after booting the laptop, my two connected screens to the dock don't show anything. When I disconnect the USB-C plug from the laptop and re-plug it after few second all screens turn on. But this issue does not concern the USB devices (like keyboard, mouse, or any USB devices), there are available at the boot time.
Hello, I see you are looking for technical assistance. If you need our help, you can start a private/direct message with us and we will be happy to assist you.
Yes guys, it's just a firmware problem, and they don't do anything about it. Dell closed my support ticket without any message and blame it on their data migration. When you call them, they try to talk out of it.
On top of that, the laptop is falling apart after half a year, like the previous Vostro.
