Multimedia Redirection - compatibility/version matrix

Question

Is there a guide that describes the MMR operation with regards to different windows versions and client versions. What I am getting at is that only up to Windows Media Player 10 is supported. So that rules out server 2008 and above and Vista and above according to other inofrmation. So we have to install Server 2008 and ensure that Audio and video options are selected when adding the RDSH role, however on server versions the ability to redirect multimedia is disabled by default and needs enabling via a policy setting. Windows 7 has this enabled by default. Does the Quest MMR automatically get disabled and use native RDP when the OS version is detected, when Windows Media player is detected or whent the underlying RDP protocol version is detected. What happens when older RDP clients are used such as 6.1? No MMR or does EOP try and redirect. The option to enbale/disable MMR in the AppPortal client seems to have no effect when using the later clients and hosts - is this supposed to be the case? Certainly for me some explanation of what does what and when would be very useful. Thanks

Good Morning,

Officially only version 10 is supported. WMP11 seems to work with the DirectShow codecs but I think we can only use Microsoft Redirection for WMP12

If you are using RDP7 on your client to connect to 2008 with the Desktop Experience option installed then you will use the Microsoft redirection.

Lower Client RDP versions will suffer at the moment but Quest WMP redirection for WMP12 is slated for a future release (Hopefully the next major one but no guarantee!)

It is worth leaving MMR turned on, even on RDP7 machines, as if you connect to any older Terminal Servers/VDIs our MMR will be needed. When connecting to 2008/Win7 we'll automatically switch to the MS version.
