Go to Crucial and run the configurator.  And yes, this is something you can do yourself.

 

What the the model you have and how much do you have now?

Maybe you can help me with one more issue pleeeease? I believe I need more RAM and found a website that can scan my computer to see which size I would need. Now my question is this, is this something I can do on my own (install the ram)? My friend told me I would need to take my computer to circuit city or best buy to have them install the RAM?  THANK YOU in advance :)

Oh good, that is the website that I found. I am at work now, so I am not sure. All I really know is that it's a dell, it's at least 5 yrs old, dimension desktop and I can hear the motor zooming everytime I try to open a large file and it takes forever for me to do anything. Plus, it's constantly pulling "virtual memory", so I think I am totally out of memory....

So I am home now and just about to install the back up thing and I cannot locate my windows XP cd Rom. Is there any other way to get this thing installed ??? :(

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I am trying to install the back up program for the windows xp home edition, so I can back up my whole computer onto an external hard drive, so I am then able to install the sp2. I haven't done the sp2 yet, because it seems more trouble than it's worth. I can't find my original disc for home edition and it didn't come with a natural back up button.

Thank you. I re-read the post and clicked on the link and it says "simply insert the CD".

I don't have any physical CD's, I hope was hoping to install something from the web.

 

I have only dell CD's for my computer, nothing to install for windows. Am I still missing

linda7125, reread my post I edited it.You can download just the ntbackup file from that site at bottom of page.

Oh I just read the error a little more and it said the recovery could not be created. should i choose the option that doesn't have the recovery diskette?

You have to backup to a folder that you can create anywhere such as your doc's. Name it Backup.Once you do this you can then send the folder to your external drive.You cannot backup directly to you ext.drive
