I know I am not giving you an answer but I just want to point out that your processor is 64bit compatible. I am expecting to install windows 7 64bit when it hits the shelfs at october.
How much is actually available will be less than 4GB and depending on what the system uses and what the video card uses will determine the amount available. Most will be under the 3.5GB range. My home built Vista 32 bit OS system (uses an Intel motherboard) with an ATI HD4850 video card shows 3.324GB available. I've seen a couple of posts on here of less than 3GB available, although that was only a very few.
In order for a OS to have access to all the memory installed it must be a 64 Bit OS. A 32 bit OS can only address up to 4 gig of memory and then there is the memory that is reserved by the OS. This is not a reportable event. This is the limitation of using a 32 bit OS.

Hi - I think I am seeing the same issue. T5500 with four 1GB DDR3 installed in DIMM1-DIMM4. It seems like XP is only seeing the first 3.
Did you talk to support about this?
This shows up in some config checks I run.
However, Windows XP does not see the memory in DIMM4 and reports just 2.93GB of RAM in the System Properties.
My question is: Should the system have been configured with 2GB in DIMM1 and 1GB in DIMM2 and DIMM3 ?
As it seems that the memory in DIMM4 is not used. And no other configuration setup has just one of DIMM4-DIMM6 filled?
From the T5500 memory configs, it seems that it is OK for the setup I have. But why does XP not see it?

I obtained these values below from a tool called SIW (System Information for Windows)
It shows that “Physical Memory = 3006 MB Total” but there are 4 memory slots filled.
Thanks for any help

Hi,
I have the same issue : 2 video card quadro fx 580 on a Win XP 32 bits, 4G installed and recognized by bios and system, but only 2.4 appeared.
When I unplugged one of these video card, windows displays 2.9G..
I dont understand why these videos cards, although it dedicated memory, takes ram from the system.
