64 bit or 32 bit Vista for my Inspiron 1525?

Hello I need suggestion which OS is better to use for my Dell Inspiron 1525 with Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 (2.0Ghz, 800Mhz, 2MB) and 4GB DDR2 667MHz of RAM.

Hi tarikboss, The main sticking point of the 64bit operating system, is getting third party software to work on it. There is a lot of software which includes business software which will not work. What you have to do is to check your manufactures software web site to see if will function with an 64bit operating system. Your hardware is ok, Intel Duo Core will run the 64bit.

Since you have 4GB of RAM, you may want to go the 64 bit route, just so you can access all that RAM; 32 bit is limited to 3GB RAM. Take into account the suggestions in the above post as well.

Yeah that's the main reason for upgrading to 64 bit, because with 32 bit OS and without Service Pack 1 it reads the RAM as 3GB. And some of my friends said to me that with 64 bit the Windows will start up more faster than with the 32 bit. I heard there will be some problems with some old programs but that is not problem at all.

I think with 64 bit OS I will get faster opening of programs and faster starting up the whole OS. These days I will try the 64 bit Vista Business.

Thank you dudes for the suggestions and support. Regards

The two issues you will have is compatibility with programs and drivers. Your computer according to Dell drivers and downloads does not support 64 bit OS. That being said you may load it and it may load default drivers that may work. If you look at the drivers under the 32 bit OS and check compatiblity you will find some of them do support the 64 bit OS. Maybe others will chime in who have already loaded it successfully. I say these things for my E1505 was not supported by Dell but yet I was able to load it and make it work since Vista 64 bit already had compatible drivers by default. If you get it up and running please respond back with any issues you may have had so future posters will benefit.

but as I know Vista searches the drivers online, or I can try installing the same drivers for 32 bit? but with programs I know autocad does problems with 64 bit os. most of the programs are compatible with 64 bit.

but when I will try the 64 bit and have expirience I will tell the advantages or disadvantages with 64 bit OS.
