8400 opens window to C:\Program Files\Dell

Hello! A friend has a Dimension 8400, and on boot, it opens a windows to C:\Program Files\Dell.

I've seen the MS KB article on the System32 window that opens, and I've also seen the Audigy sound card issue with the /L:ENG in msconfig.

Neither of these pertains. Any ideas of what is opening this window on startup?

Thanks
Doug

You will have to disable non-essential entries in msconfig one at a time and check each time (by rebooting) until you find which one is causing this.

Start/Run/ msconfig
Startup
Keep the page open then go to link below.

Read the Key at foot of page, then click on "Here" at top. Use the Search box to check all your entries. This site will tell you what all the entries are and whether you can safely disable them .

Take note of what each entry does so that you know what you will be disabling.  You need to know this in case of some automatic function not working in the future.  It might well be that you don`t need it at all.

I have read that "memcard.exe" (which comes with software for a Dell AIO Printer 942) has caused this exact problem.

Did you ever find a way to fix this?  I'm not good at doing all that was suggested.  Is there an easier way?

Thanks,
Jan

You are very welcome.

I`m glad you managed it :smileyhappy:

It`s not so hard if you read the instructions well and follow them carefully.

Well done!!
