I have already performed a fresh re-install of my O/S ,WinXP Pro SP2 MCE 2005 ! I could not perform a factory restore off the Dell partition due to a misplaced and forgotten adminastrator password . Now when I view my H.D. in the control panel under aminatrator tools ,computer management, storage. It shows my drive C as having 209 G..B. available and a empty partition of 5.88 G.B.(on my 250 G.B. internial H.D.) ? Iam curious of there is any way I can allocate the 5+ G.B. to my drive C ? I also have a externial H.D. a 320 G.B. Seagate FreeAgent Desktop USB ,which I plan on using to back up my entire internial H.D. onto protecting me from what happen to me B/4, losing all of my data, passwods etc. to a nasty piece of sypware ! Any directions or links to instructions on what I would like to do ,if its possible ?

 Thank You to All

If you don't need the 6 GB partition that is on your HDD in addition to your main system partition, you should be able to right click on it in disk management, delete that partition and then extend the system partition to the right to include the unallocated space that resulted from deleting that partition as part of the main partition.  I have not done this in a while, but I think it should work.

As for backups, I use a freeware backup software that copies files from my computer to an external HDD.  Others find it better to use an imaging tool that copies the entire HDD to an external one.  It is upto you which one you would prefer.  Acronis makes a good imaging backup system.  The freeware backup tool I use is called Version Backup.

I want to thank you for your reply and instructions on how to add this H.D. space to my main partiton C !  I have a freeware app from Seagate called Drive Manager for backing up files pictures and video's ,however for a full back up of my entire system I was going to use the WinXP built in application ? I may have to rethink that becasue you are one of many who have mentioned the bqackup app. Acronis !
