Try defragmenting and using Chkdsk.

Could be some corrupted file messing things up.

Go to start---My computer

Right click "Local drive C"

Click Properties

Click on the "tools" tab.

you can run check disk, and defrag from there.

The computer will have to re-booted to run chkdsk on Drive C:.

Make sure you have the latest release of Adaware, version 1.05

Good luck!!!

Try clearing your temp files.(disk cleanup) If nothing else, uninstall and reinstall adaware. If you tried all that too, I don't know.

Open Ad-Aware SE and click on the Gear icon. Click on the Tweak button and then open Scanning Engine. UNCHECK "Unload recognized processes and modules during scan".

It does seem to be a fairly common problem, reason unknown to me.

Thank you, I have tried it all with no success.  Lavasoft says it is a known problem that affects some computers.  I am asking Dell why is my computer affected now but not prior to two weeks ago.  Roger

Thks, I tried that and went so far as to uncheck all and scan one at a time.  I got some results but I still can not do a regular scan.  Guess I will have to find a subsitute for ad aware.  roger
