You might check Free WinZIP out.

Spunky,

Freeware Zip programs come and go all the time.
Doing a quick websearch came up with a few good possibilities. I haven't used any of these, prefering instead WinRAR (trialware) and the built in WindowsXP Zip utility.

If you try these links be careful and watch out for spyware or adware. Keep your anti-virus program running and turn on your adware-spyware blockers.

If I had more time I would search for reviews on each program before trying it and try to sort out the best.

Conrad,

Thanks for your reply.  I just got this new computer a short while and it has WindowsXP.  Are you saying it has a zip utility in it and I don't need another?  What is WinRar?  Thanks so much in advance.....

Yes, windows XP has a compress option. Just go to help and support from the start button. Write "compress a file or folder" in the search box, and you will get the information on how to compress your file or folder.

Win XP's zip program works fine. Just open a zip file by clicking on it. I never use my Winzip any more.
