I do understand your concern, but if you turn on XP's firewall and log on as an administrator, the likelyhood of you being hacked or attacked are very slim.

I have been doing this for 31 years this month and your concern is valid but in a practical sense doing this would be the logical way of addressing the issue..

I was hoping for a work around, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Will just have to keep on top of it and do my manual thing.

You will have to chance it then, this will never work unless you are logged on as an Administrator.

At this point you are involved in the security end of XP and that is a very sensative area and using XP Home, you have 2 choices, Administrator or a user with Administrator rights, the user with administrator rights would be the best choice

If you schedule a task using an administrator account it will execute at the scheduled time regardless of who is logged on as the operator of the computer. This will allow you to operate using a limited account if you choose.

May try that.  The only thing that bothers me is that when I use the "run as" feature on live update it causes a warning in the events log. Something about writing to the register.  If scheduling the update for a daily run works without creating the same events warning I may go that route... at least admin will only be exposed for short periods of time. Guess I am going to have to compromise.LOL

He was actually trying to avoid that at all cost. he said he didnt like anything having that kind of access on his system
