Any recommendations for good backup software????

Hi, Does anyone have any recommendations for a good backup software? I have 400GB x 2 RAID 1 configuration with also a 74GB WD Raptor. So far Ive seen that Norton Ghost does not support Raid 1, only Raid 0 & 5. I am thinking of whether to get Stompsoft's Backup My PC or Acronis True Image. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi anillaice,

I would say ghost 9 becuse it will copy the partition's on the computer. Norton Ghost at http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/features.html say

"Key Features

NEW! “Hot imaging” lets you create backup images without restarting Windows®. *

NEW! Incremental backup updates save time and disk space.*

NEW! Scheduled backups automatically keep your backup image up to date.*

Backs up everything on a hard drive or partition.

Works with a wide range of hard drives and removable media, including CDR/RW and DVD+-R/RW drives, USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) devices, and Iomega Zip and Jaz drives.

Restores data from images created with PowerQuest Drive Image 7.0 and previous versions of Norton Ghost.*

Symantec Recovery Disk lets you restore data from a backup image even when the computer can’t start up into Windows.

LiveUpdate keeps Norton Ghost updated automatically over the Internet.

Norton Ghost 2003 is included to back up and restore data to: Windows 9x, Me, NT; Linux; and DOS systems."

I would go with Ghost..... In fact I already have Ghost 8, but it is not compatible with my hard drive configuration which is Raid 1. Thanks anyway!!

If you are running RAID 1 then those two disks form a backup pair already, are you planing on backing up a backup?  The only issue is odd disk if it is not the boot disk can you xcopy it to the RAID array and not worry about it.  If it is the boot disk, then Ghost may work for it.   P.S. the only time you need an image backup is when you are backing up a system disk/partition, otherwise xcopy will do just fine.

"Backup My PC" works well for me.
