"application error - the memory could not be read"

I am getting the "application error - the memory could not be read" error message, referring to different memory locations, after shutting down several different applications on my XPS Gen4 system.  Can anyone help?

which operating system (including service pack) is being used and which is the application that is being closed when you get this error. Does it happen when you are connected to the net and trying to close out of the application or otherwise

That error message can be caused by memory that is loose, bad or the wrong type.  I doubt that it is the wrong type if it was purchased with your Dell.

If it is loose, you can reseat the memory.  This means that you would have to open up the computer and push the memory firmly back into the adapter.

You can run your Dell Diagnostics on the memory to test to see if it is going bad.
