Ati catalyst

Hi
I installed Ati catalyst 7.1 last week on my E510 Vista machine. It was supposed to take care of a compatibility issue with Ati desktop control panel. It did not. Anyway I just downloaded  v7.2. I hope it will take care of the problem. Before i install 7.2 should i get rid of 7.1 if so  How?  Thank you

You can install 7.2 over 7.1. The installer should take care of everything.

Here we go again. I download the ATI Catalyst from the Dell website and the Control Center would not run after several attemps of uninstalling and reinstalling it still would not open and keep arguing with Vista. In fact it wouldn't let me install the latest 7.2 from ATI. I  finally went to the explorer after the last uninstall and had to delete the entire ATI folder which the uninstall didn't do. And then I was able to install 7.2 from ATI and all is perfect now. Does Dell actually check there drivers before they post them? The driver date for the Vista 32  from Dell was October 2006. The worst part was trying to get rid of it by the surgery I performed. In fact I finally got the 3d modeling enabled and all the lastest features for the Video Card. I really don't understand any more what Dell is doing technically they are missing the boat. I really fell we are there beta testers being they never respond to us. How could they actually post so called new compatible drivers that don't work. Is Dell becoming E-Machines?

You should go to the ATI web site for the latest video drivers, not Dell. Ditto for sound cards, printers, wireless cards and any other non dell hardware. Dell doesn't post drivers until they are tested and approved. Keep checking back at the manufacturers sites for new drivers for vista.

I installed 7.2 and i received errors and files missing. I uninstalled
and then went to program files. Found the Ati folders and deleted everything inside.
Reinstalled 7.2 and everything looks great. Thanks
By the way i downloaded both 7.1 and 7.2 from the Ati web site.
The orignal Ati files are probably the problem here.

Why is Dell posting such old non working drivers in the Vista section. I sure wasted alot of time time till I finally took a stab in the dark and deleted all of the ATI folders manually. I know the folks at Dell probably have their hands full but I had to study and become a real geek to get Vista running correct.
I can see this board becoming very busy  real soon.

Hi
ATI has version 7.3  available

I loaded it last night. Everything looked like it went fine. After a re-boot however I had no mouse or keyboard. After trying everything, safe boot, shutting off things in bios I had to boot up w\CD and use repair\restore(which worked perfectly). Everything is fine now but needless to say it didn't go well. Dell E521 Vista 2gig ram TV Wonder 650 **Should v 7.3 work for me, or did I miss something? I bought this card mainly so I could dub over from an 8mm camera. thanks -Rich

Hi
I would download it  again ( the driver not 7.3) to your desktop. Then uninstall everything , both 7.3 and the driver. Then install the driver clean from your desktop. Go to C: program files-ATI and look for the uninstaller. Use it, Then reinstall. Good luck

Thanks for the response. Will do on the 7.3 removal. I installed the software from the link you mentioned a few days ago (no problems at all) but It doesn't seem to include the catalyst software. I believe it's only a driver? if I am wrong that would be great news to me :-) but I sure can't find that Catalyst software on my system. btw Cable t.v. and radio work great through windows media. thanks -rich

Ok everything was removed and I installed the download you mentioned. Now I have a C:\ATI\Support folder with several sub folders. The BIN folder has ATISetup.exe InstallManagerApp.exe and just a setup.exe there is also a APPS folder with ATICatalystINstallManager.msi Also there is a C:\ATI\support\7-1_vista_t650_wdm_42485\setup.exe Obviously I am very confused as to what I am supposed to run. Program files\ATI just has a few txt files, mostly looks like log files. This is seem to just unload a bunch of files and doesn't say which one to run. again, thanks.

well, I hate to sound dumb but i don't see the catalyst software, it's not here and I don't see any other way to capture video from my 8mm plugged into the card. I guess I expected to have a application to run to offer me option to capture input media, i.e. my video camera plugged into the card. Do I need something like roxio media center 9 to do that? -thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it -rich
