My automatic update I noticed was stuck for a coupe of days at 14% ,I noticed this by the little icon (yellow shield with ! in the middle) ? So I went directly to the site and tried to download the update which wasc a security update for M/S .Net Framework 2.0 . Also my complete update history is no longer listed ,thankfully I have the Bel-Arc Advisor a freeware app tat list all of you H.W. ,Apps and installed updates and if they verify as installed properly. However everytime i configure my system for automatic updates and set the time to 7:00A.M. it goes back to 3:00A.M. which Iam guessing is the default time ? I do not know why it will ist the updates however the progress bar just remains blank as it spins and spins forever never starting the download process ? Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Hello Gumba,

Its sounds like you have identified a .NET 2.0 update as the cause of the hang.

The most recent .NET 2.0 SP1 update (dated 11/19/07) is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=79bc3b77-e02c-4ad3-aacf-a7633f706ba5&displaylang=en

You might want to try a manual download/install and then attempt to access MS Updates again thereafter.

Just a stab in the dark.

I already have netframe work 2.0 SP1 installed on my system ! The update I believe is a security patch for that app ? I think a root of the problem is Microsoft update simply is not running correcltly on my system ,I had it set back to autmatic updating with a start time of 7:00A.M. I was onlnie and the updater nenver ran ? Oh how I hate when things are working as they should and then for no reason I can think of they stop working ? Does anyone have a limk to the Microsoft site for reinstalling the update feature ? If you do it wwould be greatly appreciated !

                                Thanks Again Nick

Hello to all ,Nick I started this topic and I said I would let evryone know the outcome of my attempt at downloading the Net FrameWork SP1 update ! As im  has informed everyone Iam on a dialup adapter and it takes a long time for a 26 M.B. download to complete ! Well the download was almost complete so it could install the update ,when I went and did a stiupid thing ,I tried to undock my externial H.D. and for some reason my system froze up .I was so mad at myself ,after waiting aprx 1 1/2 hours for this download to complete I lost my connection and hasd to reboot my PC :-( Now the good news ,after the restart I went back to the Microsoft Update site and when I clicked on the same update ,it picked up from where it left off ,so apprently my updater is worlking  the download completed and installed properly. Iam not happy that my complete update history is gone .However as I statet B/4 I have the Bel-Arc Advisor a great little freeware app you can download at the PC Magazine web site ,here is some info on the app from its folder >

The Belarc Advisor is a unique application that works
with your Internet browser.  It automatically shows your installed
software and hardware.  This Advisor is for personal use only.
The Advisor, or any output from it, may not be used for commercial,
educational or government purposes or to aggregate information about
multiple computers.  Licensing information for those purposes is
available at http://www.belarc.com or by calling Belarc
at +1-978-461-1103.

I had it installed on my previous PC and its great for identifying your H.W. and seeing eveything thats installed on your PC ,next to each program thats installed is a * and if you click the * it takes you to the folder for that app ,its a much faste way then browsing your way to it thru Windows Explorer, also it list all of the updates and verifies that they are properly installed !

Well back to my update situation ,I still dont understsand why wheneve I wet my automatic update to 6:00A.M. it reverts back to 3:00A.M. which will not work becasue I shut down my PC when not in use ? Again thank you to everyone that replied to my topic and have a good day !

                                                                           Take Care

                                                                                      Nick
