Back-up failed/Access denied to chkdsk/File system corruption from test.

All are errors started from IE8 update in May 20th which failed. Now all updates fail. I now have 15 updates need to down load. I need to know how I can find what is keeping me from running the chkdsk. It will not open the scheduler for the restart.I have run every test possible. There is something missing so I can not run chkdsk. I have run the chkdsk with no boxes checked. It runs till about 20% and then disappears like there was nothing to tell me.

Dell XPS M1530 Vista ultimate sp2

All my programs work. A few times my system shut down and restarted and it told me there was a failure and a restart accrued.

I have run every test from Dell from boot to full system. I tested from Microsoft. The errors I get now from updates is 80070570 and 8004FF07

one of the test I did on the disk gave me 0x8000FFFF catastrophic failure.

I don't know where to begin.

I went to MS web sight and down loaded a boot disk and installed it on a cd. I then had the system boot from the disk and correct all my disk problems. This took almost an hour. I then went to the updates 14 that I was waiting for to down load and install from MS. All but one came through. I then ran chkdsk /f and it worked I rebooted the system and down loaded the last up-date and started my back up. No more problems.

drjbond,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Turn off any Anti-Virus programs before downloading updates. You can also choose only a couple of updates at a time to see if they will update.
