Backup and Restore Utility doesn't function in Vista Home Premium
Having reinstalled Vista Home Premium on my three week old XPS 720 two times (thanks to Acronis), the Backup and Restore utility hasn't functioned under any of the installations. It doesn't matter if I go to Control Panel, or to System Tools/ Backup Status and Configuration, or to a drive and select Tools, Backup now - I get the same error message:
Quote The backup application could not start due to an internal error:
Windows encountered an Internal error. Review your backup and restore settings (0x81000027)
Please check your system configuration and try again.
I have made sure Windows Backup is running in the Services Window. Same results.
Any ideas on how I can reinstall or repair JUST the Backup and Restore Utility?

A Windows Resource Protection file could be missing or corrupted. Try running the System File Checker tool as follows:
1. Open an elevated command prompt (Click Start and type command in the search box. Right click the Command Prompt icon at the top of the panel and choose Run as administrator).
2. Type the command sfc /scannow and enter.
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

I did what you suggested. The scan came back with no integrity violations. I tried again to set up a backup, and get the same error message.
other suggestions?

No, I am trying to backup files from the C drive, files, email, etc. using Vista's backup, rather than purchase another license for Symantec's Backup Exec. I have O & O's Disk Image for a complete image copy.
Ideas?

Hi
Are you trying to backup to a USB drive ?
If you are the USB drive has to be formatted as NTFS
not FAT 32 only NTFS will work for Vista backups .
And
do not backup to the D:\Recovery drive it will not work ,
D:\Recovery was put there to go back to the factory setup
as in the day you bought the computer !
