Bad Image Check Sum

Fatal system error when logging off ( Dimension 4550) Windows XP

error: c000021a( Fatal system error) The windows system process terminated unsuccessfully with a status of:

ox0000005(ox00000000ox00000000)

Powerd off m/c  on powering on. m/c will not boot,

Error STOP: c0000221(Bad Image Check sum) The image version.dii is possibly corrupt  the Header Check sum does not match the computed check sum.

Have run full diagnostic tests no errors found

Hi,

Start bootup and press F8 repeatedly and see if you can get to the screen with

1.   Safe Mode.  Select this and if you get onto Windows do a System Restore

2.   On same screen select "Last known good config"

If neither of these works I think you will have to do a repair of XP

Repair XP

Boot up with the XP CD in the drive and let Setup run. Go past the "C" and "R" repair options by presssing Enter just as if you're doing a clean install and you'll eventually get an option to "Repair an existing installation". That's the one you want. If it asks about formatting you've gone wrong, so start over.

You'll get to keep your existing apps & settings, but you need to re-install SP1, Windows Updates & any unsigned drivers afterwards.

Many thanks for information. System successfully recovered by booting with XP CD and using the repair installation option
