Belarc Advisor

Running belarc advisor, I have some red x's on some items in the list. I have five disabled accounts which have nothing to do with my local user accounts. What are local system accounts and does it matter if I have five disabled local system accounts?

It is just informing you of all the accounts on the system, hidden or not, and which ones are enabled/disabled.

Nothing wrong with having accounts disabled if they are not being used, actually is a good thing.

So the 14 updates have to do with the windows updates off of the microsoft update website? I have all the updates required.

Do a windows update, if there are no recommended or critical updates, you can ignore that also.

"So the 14 updates have to do with the windows updates off of the microsoft update website? I have all the updates required."

Maybe yes maybe no, that is why I suggested to Do the Windows Update and see if there are any.

I trust Windows update to tell me what I need more than Belarc.

I ran Belarc on my system and it says I am missing one, I looked at what it said I need, but it does not apply to my System and what I use it for.

Here is what Belarc says I need
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms07-053.mspx  I am never going to use this service for Unix, so why patch it, not necessary, Windows Updates says I don't need it either.

I use MBSA which " missing security updates on your computer systems...."

The version I use is 2.0.1

This program shows me which updates I'm missing for my system.I also receive e-mail notifications that pertain to my system.

And also what mombodog said  " there are no recommended or critical updates, you can ignore that also."

According to the program, I have windows media player 10 and one of the player updates needs to be reinstalled. It's KB914440. I also have office xp professional and publisher 2002 that have security hotfix that fails verification.

The scan done at MS's Update site only reads the file named "windowsupdatelog". If that file says an update was successfully installed, then the MS update site will not tell you you need to reinstall it because it's now corrupted or got deleted.

You can run a local update check to see the status of all installed updates on your system. Open cmd prompt window. (This won't work from Start>Run.)

At C: prompt, type in:
qfecheck /v
press Enter
A list of installed updates and their status will scroll up the screen. Any update not listed as "current" needs to be reinstalled.

If you type in: qfecheck /?, you'll get the list of switches (things that come after the /) and you'll see one for an option to save the status check as a file on the hard drive for future reference.

Belarc kept marking an update on my system with red X, but MS update site wouldn't offer the update to me. Went round/round witn MS about it, but when they had me run qfecheck and it marked that update as "reinstall", MS finally believed me and allowed me to access/download the update.

The qfcheck /v command doesn't work for me. I must be typing it in wrong. Same goes for the qfecheck /?.

My operating system is windows xp home edition. Thank you for the link. I ran the command at the command prompt and everything is good. All hotfixes have a status of "current on system" However, using ace utilities, uninstall manager, I have the following listed as invalid
MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB925672)
MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978)
MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB936181)
Also under Belarc advisor, I have two software programs that fail security and one update that needs to be reinstalled
office xp professional
KB873379
publisher 2002
KB873379
windows media player 10
KB911565

None of the above appear in the command prompt list.
