BIOS Update Notice . . . Is It Legit??
About a week ago I got a notice from (I think) Microsoft that I should update my BIOS. I have a near new Dell 8300 that came with BIOS A05. I dutifully went to the Microsoft update place for BIOS and sure 'nuff there was an announcement that said to do the update. I was very careful to follow the instructions (quivering the whole time), and I completed the update with no apparent problems. Strangely, the version of the BIOS remained A05. I'm not having any problems, but since I keep getting notices that seem to be coming from Microsoft (via Email) to do updates, I'm starting to wonder if these Emails are legit. The last time it said to update Win XP, so I went to the update place, and checked, and it said I have all the updates already. So what's that Email I keep getting every so often supposedly from Microsoft??

It's just that it would be nice to be notified when there are updates available. I'll probably delete future notices. Thanx for the opinion.

But I also am getting notices from Microsoft (I think). But I was even suspicious of the Dell notice. That's what it's come to, I suppose.

Microsoft never mails unsoliciated update notifications. However, one can readily subscribe to email notifications about Critical Updates here. These provide a link to the Microsoft site from which the update can be downloaded.
On the other hand, it is true that Microsoft never, never, never emails updates themselves.
