Bloatware

I've just recieved my new Inspiron 9400 laptop. It is quite clogged down with the endless software dell puts in it.
Does anyone have any tips or links on how to speed up performance? Which software programs are useless and can be removed?

I did a clean install myself, but I've also heard good things about Dell Decrapifier - Google it.

YMMV, I have heard good things but haven't used it myself. A clean install will do a better job, but Decrapifier may be sufficient and require far less effort.

Another approach is to just use Add/Remove programs to get rid of what you don't want. I've done that lately and it works fairly well. Of course, it does not clean every last registry entry.

A clean install with remove the ability to use the PC restore (control-F11) or any other Dell utilities or software that shipped with the machine that you might want.
