Blue screen error - unmounted boot volume

I was on the Dell PC the other night and it got hung up so I got out of it.  Went to boot back up and got the blue screen - unmounted boot volume.  Has anyone else had this error and can tell me what I should do to correct it and get back to my desktop.

thanks

This could be a problem with the HDD, also run the HDD diagnostics to see if there are a problem with the hard disk.

Follow the directions to repair the damaged system files in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297185&Product=winxp

Running hard drive diagnostics will tell you that the drive has failed, which is false in most cases. Booting to the XP cd, running the Recovery Console, running CHKDSK /R first and then running FIXBOOT will correct the damaged file system.
