Blue Screen saying something about dirty disc?

Hi, I am so clueless about computers, but it has just cut out a few times and a blue screen will pop up with all these words, which is like chinese to me.lol:smileysad: and the last time I did it, when i started computer back up, it went through 3 steps and then restarted. I know it is going to do it again, and my computer is running slow with alot of lag on sites I go to. Please help..I dont know how to fix it.

It would help to have the exact text of the error message.

Are you using the CD drive when the error occurs. It sounds a bit like the error you get when Windows can't read the CD (it was removed from the drive, the drive is failing or the disk is dirty).

It does say something about a dirty disc, and i didn't read it all because it said begin dumping physical memory, so i turned off computer real fast. I wish I knew more about computers, but I guess its the hard drive? where u put discs in, that was bad and so i have one attached to the outside of the tower. But what is the disc that is dirty? Thank you anyone that can help.

Does your Blue Screen say anything about CHKDSK running.  When CHKDSK runs, it will sometimes say 'the volume is dirty.'   If this is what is going on, you can try booting into safe mode, go to Start-->Run-->CHKDSK, let it run and it might fix the problem

I don't know how to put it in safe mode. I never read all of what the blue screen said, I got scared and turned it off. Now I downloaded aols latest spyware thing and all my favorites are gone. I don't know if that is related to anything. I guess no one can help if I can't explain the problem. I know as soon as I sign off of aol, the blue screen is going to come up, because it is doing the same thing. It is getting real laggy and everything is running slow.

A couple ot thoughts:

1). It is important to know if the message you are getting is saying something about "the disk is dirty" vs. "the volume is dirty." The latter usually means that there are some errors on your hard drive. The CHKDSK program that comes with Win XP is supposed to fix errors like that.

2) To get into Safe Mode, you restart your computer and as it restarts, you press F8 at the top of your keyboard. You should get a menu that offers you several options, one of which is starting Windows in Safe Mode. If you get into Safe Mode, your Windows desktop screen will not look like it usually does--don't worry about that. To get out of Safe Mode, you just restart your computer and let it boot up like it usually does.

3). Are you using dial-up or broadband to connect to the internet? I am not sure from what you have said so far that the blue screen you are getting is related to slow/laggy internet connections.

4).. When you said that your "favorites" were gone after you downloaded AOL spyware program, did you mean your AOL favorites or Internet Explorer favorites? I'm not sure how much it matters, but it may help to know.

5). You could try using Win XP system restore to get your computer back to a state before you downloaded the AOL spyware. It may or may not work. Go to start-->all programs-->accesories-->system tools-->system restore and follow the instructions to "restore your computer to an earlier time." You may have to look back a couple of days to find when the system saved a restore point.

6). The most important thing is that I don't think you have done anything to do serious harm to your system yet. Stop and take a deep breath. Things will probably be ok.
