brand new computer....Vista or XP ????

All the proper Vista drivers for hardware you plan on attaching, than get Vista.  Older hardware that you cannot download a Vista driver for, either get XP or upgrade the hardware.  Be prepared to have patience in learning a new OS

That new system will have all the correct drivers for Vista.  The only drivers that you may just need are for a printer, or possibly some other add on hardware that you may have lying around.  Vista will not have the Service Patch until sometime next year, but each month Microsoft updates Vista little at a time.  We just download those updates, which help with some issues. 

 

I have never had an issue with Vista either the 32 bit Vista version nor the 64 bit version.  I do have a nice newer ( 8 months old ) and a newer printer ( 5 months old ) and did not have an issue with them.  Others do have issues because they are updating an older system, with older hardware and installed software, where you should not have many of these problems as they do.  Some problems are related to the individual not knowing what they are doing and they are the cause of the problem for not doing the home work first. 

 

The XPS 720 is a new system, and you should have no or so very little issues just get the system now if you wish.  If you wait until Jan/Feb/March of next year, the 720 system will probably be replaced with the 730 model. 

 

 

By the time you wait on Service Pack 1, then Service Pack 2 to be released for Vista, which may finally fix most compatibility issues that Service Pack 1 did not, Windows 7 may be released, and all support for XP will be dropped.  Why move backward, when you can move forward?  Accept the fact that you will have to live with BSOD's, random crashes, and viruses.  Accept and assimilate.

I'm NOT living with BSOD's and I'm NOT living with random crashes, and NOBODY HAS TO LIVE WITH VIRUSES!!!!!

 

Been running Vista on 2 computers since its release and have absolutely no problems.

Less than a week after receiving my laptop, I have seen the BSOD twice and had IE lock up on me numerous times.  I also had to install Anti-virus software as well.  I do use my computer for real work, like software development, and it is connected to the internet.  I would consider that fairly normal use.  I'm not saying it happens all the time, but I cannot imagine anyone who owns a computer with Windows who has never seen a BSOD.

As far as the other, I've not had IE "lock up on me numerous times" and on Vista (so far), I've not encountered a BSOD. And that's NOT "imagination". Personally, I'd rather have my systems set up and configured properly rather than "accept" these anomalies. Your choice I suppose???

After I deleated google desktop my internet explorer quite crashing.
